2009/2010 TCCCA update
Season: Winter 2009 Submitted By: Jeanine Harrison
Many things have happened at the Toronto Clinic over the last few months.
We have said goodbye to some of our Fellows who moved on to provide congenital care in other parts of the world such as Australia, Israel, Saudi Arabia, USA, Switzerland and Western Canada. However, we have welcomed a diverse group of new Fellows that have come to augment their cardiology practice by studying the complexities and management of congenital heart disease. The TCCCA has been working hard to increase its ability to provide for the growing ACHD population and has successfully reduced both clinic wait times, admission wait times, cath wait times and surgical wait times.
We are pleased to have the annual TCCCA patient conference with some very interesting speakers from around the world attending. Last years conference brought an increased number of patients and family members proving that even a recession can’t keep our patients from learning about their hearts. The registration fee will, again, be kept at $40.00 due to the generous donations of our partners in industry who off set the rising cost of the conference so the registration fee can remain low.
Another more recent change at the TCCCA is the departure of our Nurse Practitioner Jeanine Harrison. She made the very difficult decision to move hospitals so she could be home more with her children. She will miss all the patients she had the pleasure of working with and will keep in touch through her friends and colleagues in the TCCCA.
We have hired our new Nurse Practitioner, Ms Qunyu Li. She worked previously on the cardiology ward at the University Health Network and has experience in cardiac rehabilitation as well. We welcome Li to our great congenital team and she is looking forward to becoming integrated into the role over the next few months.
